To all Wallins Creek People everywhere. And believe me, we are scattered across this country and even some foreign countries. We all share a very rich heritage by being born or raised in Wallins Creek. I know that I wouldn't trade growing up there with any other experience I have had in life. This is not to say that a lot of us didn't go through some really hard times. We did. But we also got a very important start in life because of the values instilled in us by our parents and others. I think this was evidenced in the pioneer spirit of our ancestors which settled this area. Life was hard. To survive, it took courage and faith in God. This has been passed down to us. We need to carry this on and pass it down to our loved ones even though we may no longer live in Wallins.
By now you should have received the latest edition of "The Wallins Reunion Newsletter" dated August 2005. In it was the sad news that this was the final edition of our newsletter. This happened because we were no longer able to support the reunion because of a drop in attendance. This reality, though hard to accept, was eventual due to the age and health of most of our attendees. Many have passed away and others stated that they would no longer be able to attend. After consultation with some of the founding members it was agreed that this would be our final edition. We also discussed ways to keep our fellowship alive. Fortunately we have some other options available. One is our school reunion in Wallins held each Labor Day Weekend. The other is the Wallins Luncheon held the third Thursday of each month at Ryan's Steakhouse on Preston Highway in Louisville. We urge you to try to attend either of these functions whenever you can. We will be turning over money and other material concerning our reunion to people at the Wallins School reunion. We cannot begin to thank everyone who worked so hard for years to keep alive the memory of our school through The Wallins Reunion held in Louisville. We will never forget your love and friendship.
For those who where unable to attend our last, and as it turns out final reunion, we must say that we had a special time together on Oct. 15-16, 2004 at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center at 9700 Bluegrass Parkway. As most of you know, our reunion has been held for many years in Louisville, KY during the month of October of even numbered years. Our reunion consisted of the following activites: An open hospitality room on Friday and Saturday where friends met to renew acquaintances while sharing food and recalling stories of yesteryear at Wallins High. We topped off the weekend with a banquet on Saturday night to honor the 50th anniversary of the graduation of both the Class of 1953 and 1954. There were only a few of the graduates of these classes in attendance. Our speaker was Dr. Bill Booth, a very distinguished graduate of Wallins High Class of 1953. He made a very good presentation including a lot of hands on items from his many trips to China. Some also met on Sunday morning for breakfast before departing.
